The butterfly flits about with grace. The solitary traveller sighs with the gentlest melancholy.
Grieg’s Lyric Pieces comprise 66 touching vignettes in ten books that cover most of his composing life.
Stephen Hough is a past master of the art of the miniature and his selection of 27 on this disc deserves a keen recommendation.
Freshness of thought, lightness of touch, brilliance of execution — Hough makes it all sound so easy.
Many Grieg favourites, including “Wedding day at Troldhaugen”, are here. The others, beautifully played, should equally win friends.
